November 28, 2009:
Trick, having been gelded 2 weeks ago today, and I went out for our first ride since his surgery. He is amazing.
We had a wonderful time and we were gone for 2 hours. It was a quiet, peaceful ride. We walked most of the time noticing the
beauty that surrounded us down the country road. We encountered some other horses in a pasture that eagerly ran up to the
fence to say hello, some cows that were as curious about us as Trick was about them, a couple of motorcycles that didn't bother
Trick at all. The only thing that bothered him were the 2 bicycles that came up behind us without warning. The courteous thing
for them to have done was to let us know they were coming, how hard would it have been. Trick bolted but I got him calmed
down. They never even hesitated to see if things were ok. Just plain rude if you ask me. We heard the birds singing and enjoyed
the warm sun shining on us both. Water trickled in the creek beds, we crossed bridges, rode through the fallen leaves that
were along the roadside in the ditch and just generally had a wonderful time. Trick is an amazing horse, one that you can
ride everyday or leave in the pasture for a few months and saddle him up and go. He acts the same every single time. Rebel
is the same way although not as seasoned as Trick.
Trick and I have a wonderful connection. We understand one another and trust one another. It was nice to spend a
couple hours out and away from the house just enjoying nature.
November 15, 2009:
Its been a busy past few days. Friday evening a colt out of a mare I sold last year was delivered back to me. He is beautiful
and on the gelding page. His name is Napoleon. I knew there was a chance that if the mare was in foal they would not want
to keep it and told them if they didn't I would take him back. He is 6 months old and amazing.
Since the vet could not get out here on the 7th of November he came yesterday. Along with Trick being gelded I also had
Napoleon gelded and the sarcoid banded on Rocket. Everyone is doing exceptionally well.
Napoleon has been worked with and is halter and lead broke and is a loveable sweetheart. Can pick up all fours and pet
him everywhere. He will be really nice when he grows up. I seem to be gaining more geldings now than mares. Fine by me.
Its rained all day today which has now made EVERYTHING a muddy mess and kept Napoleon in the barn. Really needed to work
him after being gelded. Look towards tomorrow even if I have to let him run around in the barn.
October 24, 2009
Its over now. I am done breeding. Trick will be gelded on November 7, 2009 and I will be done after spring of 2010.
I have 2 foals due at that time out of Trick. Its a relief to be done with the breeding aspect and back in July I gave myself
1 year to get that wrapped up, get my horse trailer, my hitch put in the bed of my truck and new tires and shocks. So far
its been 3 months and I have cut down on horses, gotten my horse trailer already and now heading into getting my hitch installed
in my truck. So it is all coming together. I will be ready in the spring to do pleasure things with the horses. We will do
a few shows, go out to some places where you can trail ride like Honey Creek and Smithville Lake and might join a drill
team as well. I think that would be a blast. I'd love to do drill on Trick. What a flashy horse to do that on. I am looking
forward to big changes in 2010 for myself and the horses. My husband has even agreed to go riding with me. YIPPY! So we may
do some weekend campouts and such. That would be fun. Lots of changes.
September 2009 and the year is almost over. Hard to believe. I have cut down some and will probably cut down a little
more and it has proven to be the right thing to do. I am enjoying the horses more again. I'd actually like to place a couple
more maybe but it would have to be on conditions. Not just anyone but someone special. Oh well all I have is time really.
If it happens so be it, if not then so be it.
